ICONS: Abyssos by Le Coq Porcelain. The sea, captured in porcelain

With Abyssos, Le Coq Porcelain turns the deep, shifting moods of the ocean into a table collection that feels both bold and quietly refined. The signature look comes from a hand-decorated reactive colour on a matt white/blue base: a finish designed to move across each form, so no two pieces read exactly the same.

What makes Abyssos instantly recognizable is the way its reactive decoration responds to shape. On more concave pieces, the colour can concentrate toward the centre, creating darker, deeper tones, sometimes drifting toward green-brown depths reminiscent of seawater. On larger, more open surfaces, the effect becomes lighter and more nuanced, with soft greyish shades and gentle gradients that feel like light passing over water. It’s an “iconic” aesthetic precisely because it’s never flat: the glaze behaves like nature, not like a uniform coating.

Under the drama, there’s serious material integrity. The collection is made of porcelain, prized among ceramic materials for its hardness and resistance. It’s fired twice, and during the second firing the temperature rises to over 1,300°C (2,370°F), a process that supports the durability expected in demanding hospitality settings, while keeping the finish crisp and elegant.

Abyssos is built for contemporary plating: think deep plates that frame sauces and broths like a spotlight, pasta bowls that amplify colour contrast, and statement shapes like the slanting plate for modern, asymmetric presentations. Add in character pieces, like the drop tray, cake stand, and gourmet bowl “Scrigno”, and the collection becomes a versatile toolkit for chefs and hosts who want the table to feel curated, not simply set.

In short: Abyssos is minimal in palette, maximal in depth, a porcelain collection that brings artisanal variation, oceanic intensity, and modern gastronomy into one cohesive, unmistakable look.
