This year the Republic of Korea will take center stage as the host of World Environment Day, emphasizing a global commitment to eradicate plastic pollution, as announced by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5, a significant occasion established by the United Nations General Assembly back in 1972.  In the last fifty years, this Day has evolved into one of the most significant global platforms for environmental outreach. Millions of individuals engage both online and in-person, taking part in activities, events, and actions across the globe.

"World Environment Day in 2025 promises to be a pivotal moment for global environmental conservation, as we anticipate the conclusion of the global plastic agreement.  "As the host country for the 2025 World Environment Day, the Republic of Korea is poised to spearhead global initiatives aimed at combating plastic pollution," stated Han Wha-jin, the Environment Minister of the Republic of Korea.
